Auggie’s Adoption Story

I first saw “Cornflake” on the local news as a pet of the week.  He looked older, shy and a little impulsive.  I thought he was cute but I wasn’t quite ready to make the commitment as I already had another dog at home.  I proceeded to see this same little Chihuahua on flyers at my local pet store and online as the volunteers were trying their best to get him a home.  Every time I saw him as the pet of the week on the local news I felt a little sadder that no one would give him a chance.  I posted his picture on Facebook and told anyone I could that he was available for adoption.  One day he was taken to an adoption event where he was one of the few not adopted.  I called the local shelter to find out if he was still available and drove there and decided this little guy was coming home with me after being at the shelter for almost 8 months.

Although it was a greater time commitment we welcomed him into our home and he’s adjusted very well.  He’s an older dog (7) so it took him some time to adjust to our place, but we love him.  He is now “Auggie” and I am so happy we are his forever home!

Thank you for sharing Auggie’s adoption story with us, Icela! He looks so happy to be home at last.

We’d love to feature your rescue dog or cat here, too! Just email PetMeds at and share your pet’s adoption story and a photo or two of your own rescue dog or cat.
