Frankie’s Rescue Story

This week, Laura M. shares Frankie’s rescue story with us:

Frankie was rescued from the Caribbean Island of Anguilla

I was given the opportunity to live and work on the Caribbean Island of Anguilla for an Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF) donating my time to foster dogs in need of medical/behavior rehabilitation.  This is how I adopted my island bush dog “Frankie” who I flew home to the United States, who reminds me why I do what I do for animals in need.  I lived on the island for 4 years knowing that one day I would return home to California and of course with no intentions of bringing an animal home, but somehow these “furkids” capture our hearts and give us unconditional love from the very start.

Frankie's "before" photo

She originally had a bad case of mange, underweight and malnourished when I began to foster her in January 2007. By April of that year, she had flourished into a fine, sweet, and healthy dog. Not only is she unique in personality but in genes as well.  I got her breed tested and she’s not one single breed of the 160 they test for.  She has “old soul” eyes and she looks at me with gratitude every day that she no longer has to survive on the street eating rodents and trash left behind.  She is now my heart and soul who has a warm bed, lots of toys to play with, and a family who loves her forever!

Thank you for sharing Frankie’s rescue story with us, Laura! Want us to feature your own rescue dog or cat? It’s easy! Just email PetMeds at rescuepet@petmeds.com. Be sure to tell us your pet’s adoption story, what makes your rescue pet special, and include a few photos of your special dog or cat.
