Rescue Spotlight: Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue

Founded in 2004, Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue is a non-profit rescue group staffed by volunteers dedicated to helping Shetland Sheepdogs. The organization rescues Shelties that are abused or abandoned, and cares for them in a private foster home until a loving permanent home can be found. All of these dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked and provided with heartworm prevention and flea and tick medication. 122 Shelties were placed in forever homes in the year 2011 alone.

If you live in the mid-Florida area and are interested in adopting a Sheltie, the rescue’s website maintains a list of Shelties available for adoption. After completing the adoption application, the application is reviewed and an appointment for you to meet the prospective adoptee will be scheduled. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of caring for these dogs.

If you’re not able to adopt, there are of other ways you can help Mid Florida Sheltie Rescue, such as providing a foster home for a Sheltie in need. You can make a tax-deductible monetary donation, or donate a Karunda dog bed. PetMeds was proud to help support this group with a donation of pet supplies.

Abby Rosenberg

Abby Rosenberg is a PetMeds employee and long-time cat lover. She was a volunteer for several years at a local no-kill cats only rescue shelter. This has prepared her for her most challenging role to date: secretary, photographer, social coordinator and treat dispenser for Daisy, and Daisy’s sidekick Harley. Daisy is a dilute calico Devon Rex cat, and Harley is a “cow-cat” who was adopted from the shelter where Abby volunteered. You can also find Abby on Google+
