I met and immediately fell in love with Leo 3 to 4 months after I started volunteering at our local shelter. He had these soulful eyes and was the most unique brindle color I had ever seen. He was being fostered by another volunteer, and she had brought him to an adoption event. It was love at first sight. I was devastated when someone adopted him later that day. Well, I should say I was happy for him, but sad because I just knew he was meant to be a part of my family.
About 4 months later, his original foster mom texted me saying, “Leo is back at the shelter”. I wasn’t going to let this opportunity go by. I talked my husband into taking our German shepherd to the shelter to meet Leo and see if they would click. We never thought it would be possible as she is so headstrong. Well, they didn’t seem to mind each other, so we decided to try it. We took him home and 2 days later, when my husband laid down for a nap, Leo stretched out beside him as if spooning him. My husband woke up to his sweet nose touching his neck and that was all it took. We decided that we would adopt him that instant. He has brought us so much joy and between him and our other rescue, Lulu, we feel like the luckiest people in the world.
Thank you for sharing Leo’s adoption story with us, Carol! It seems like he was meant to be a part of your family.
