K9s for Warriors is a non-profit group located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. They are dedicated to raising awareness and funds, which are used to provide trained service dogs to wounded military veterans.
They note that many returning veterans face not only physical disability, but may return with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of their service to our country. Adjusting to civilian life with a disability is made easier with the assistance of these specially trained canines.
Once the K9/warrior team is matched, they begin the specialized training. This partnership between the team helps the wounded warrior face the challenges presented when returning to civilian life. Each canine is specifically matched and trained to meet to the needs of their soldier.
The service dogs provide love and companionship to those suffering from “invisible” disabilities such as PTSD. These canines can also provide assistance to those with physical disabilities, allowing the wounded soldier to become more independent. K9s for Warriors notes that their canines can be trained to perform up to 70 specific tasks, such as turning on lights or opening doors.
1-800-PetMeds is proud to support K9s for Warriors by supplying the annual flea and tick medications for the canines going through training.
