Hurricane Irma Relief | Big Dog Ranch Rescue

Recent hurricanes wreaked havoc on many families, homes, and communities in the Southeast. When Harvey hit Texas we immediately teamed up with Best Friends to assist with their local pet rescue efforts. Irma presented a different challenge, but also an opportunity to help animal rescue efforts in our own Florida backyard.

Big Dog Ranch Rescue (Loxahatchee Groves, Florida) is the largest no-kill dog rescue in the Southeastern United States. Their organization is home to about 500 dogs at any given time and they are expanding their facilities rapidly. With Hurricane Irma hitting so close to home, BDRR stepped into action to assist as many dogs as possible. Using small planes, they were able to ship collected donations and supplies to affected areas. The group has already made multiple supply drops and has more planned in the coming weeks.

When 1-800-PetMeds® saw what Big Dog Ranch Rescue was doing for our community, we wanted to help. We rallied together a team and visited Big Dog Ranch Rescue where we were able to donate a $5,000 merchandise credit, boxes of dog biscuits, flea and tick prevention, and other supplies. “Big Dog Ranch Rescue is making a real difference for pets affected by Irma. We are proud to be a part of it, to help them in any way we can,” said Alex Irvin, who is the Marketing Director of 1-800-PetMeds®. Big Dog Ranch Rescue has rescued a great number of pets affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, many of which were diagnosed as heartworm positive. “We are so grateful for 1-800-PetMeds® and their generous gifts. We currently have over 50 heartworm positive dogs on campus and this gift will cover treatment for all of them and then some!”, said Robin Friedman of Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

  • I would donate but in the form of a check or money order. I NEVER put any cards on line for any reason. If there is a mailing address that should always be included even if just a PO box.
