Pet Appreciation Week

The first week in June is designated Pet Appreciation Week. Our pets give us so much, but ask for so little in return that it can be easy to take our animal friends for granted.  Take a moment to remember the things that are special about your pet. Pet Appreciation Week is a great time to show your appreciation to your own special pet, and there are lots of simple, inexpensive ways we can thank our pets for their unconditional love and companionship.

One of the easiest things you can do is simply spend more time with your pet; it costs nothing but your time, and pets will especially treasure any extra time and attention they receive from you. Take a longer walk with your dog, spend extra time playing with your cat, or indulge your dog or cat with a relaxing brushing or  massage. Most pets will appreciate a new pet toy or healthy treats. While your pet might not enjoy it, you can show how important your pet is to you by scheduling a veterinary check-up and/or teeth cleaning to ensure your pet’s optimal health.

Pet Appreciation Week isn’t limited to cats and dogs. Show your appreciation to your horse, rodent, fish, reptile or other pet, too. Even if you are currently without a pet, there are lots of ways you can show your appreciation of pets, such as volunteering at a local pet shelter, providing a donation of much-needed supplies, or fostering an animal in need.

How do you show your appreciation to your own pet?

  • I have taken in a rescue bunny, a rescue kitty who was left as a kitten to fend for herself outside and just took another kitty that the owner couldn’t afford to feed. I love to think that I am helping somehow, these animals are all fixed so there will be no baby worries.
