Rescue Spotlight: Save A Stray

Located in St. Joseph, Michigan, Save A Stray is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of homeless pets. Open since December, 2008, Save A Stray is staffed entirely by volunteers, and the organization is also committed to reducing pet overpopulation.

Every pet Save A Stray rescues is spayed or neutered, receives veterinary care, is tested for heartworm, and receives any necessary vaccinations.  Additionally, the cats are tested for FIV and FeLV, and the dogs are microchipped. The pets live in a foster home where they receive lots of love, socialization and care while they are waiting to find their Forever home.

If you are interested in adopting, the Save A Stray website has photos and information about cats and dogs available for adoption. The adoption fee for dogs is $135 and for cats is $85.00; keep in mind that the adoption fee is far less than the cost of providing care for these pets. Fill out their Adoption Questionnaire, after which there will be a home visit to ensure this will be a good match.

If you are not able to adopt, there are lots of other ways to help. Save A Stray gratefully accepts your tax-deductible monetary donations. You can also donate supplies from their wish-list which includes items such as pet food, cat litter, and leashes, collars and harnesses. There are also lots of volunteer opportunities, or you may volunteer to foster a dog or cat in need. PetMeds was proud to support Save A Stray with a donation of pet supplies.
