Pet meds Spotlight: Rimadyl

Today’s Pet meds spotlight is on Rimadyl, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) used to treat inflammation and pain due to joint diseases, including arthritis and hip dysplasia. Also used to treat surgical pain and to reduce fever.

Rimadyl requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

PetMeds suggests using Rimadyl as final phase in trying to reduce the discomfort of age or genetic issues related to joint pain. Rimadyl is a prescription medication with some potential side effects including liver and kidney issues. Some pet meds without potential side effects, include our line of products with glucosamine for dogs, Super Joint Enhancer, and other nutritional supplements that might help slow down some of the issues you notice with your pet. Hesitation at stairs, entry in and out of cars, and overall discomfort at sleep time can be combated with a change in diet, ramps, and an orthopedic heated bed.

Before giving your pet any prescription or over-the-counter medications, check with your veterinarian or pharmacist.
