Shelter Spotlight: Heavensown Rescue – Waxhaw, NC

This sweet pup is available for adoption at Heavensown Rescue

Heavensown Rescue is a dog rescue in Waxhaw, NC that rescues dogs from high-kill shelters with the goal of saving as many pets from euthanization as possible. The founders and owners are James and Donna Fowler of Waxhaw NC. They live on a very large, family-owned farm between Monroe, NC and Lancaster, SC.

They have so many pets in rescue right now, and they need your help. They ask that you either adopt one of their dogs or please pass along their website to others who may be interested in adopting a new companion. They are also looking for people who would be willing to join them in their mission to save more pets by donating items, volunteering, or fostering a dog. If you have the time or resources, they would welcome your help – and so would the pets. They ask that you please give their website address and contact information to anyone who can help. Without the help of others, they could never save so many pets from euthanization. And because donations are down right now, they are in special need of help. Who Heavensown Rescues

The majority of pets they take into their rescue are gas shelter dogs and puppies. The owners have been to many shelters, and they believe that gas shelters are a horrible place for any pet to end up. They are very upset about the numbers of pets euthanized at these shelters and the methods used to do it. (They suggest that anyone who wants more information about gas shelters read more on their website or type “gas shelters” into a search engine). The pets at the shelters they rescue from are typically going to be euthanized very soon, and they step in to save the animals. They know that the more pets they can rescue (and the more pets people adopt), the fewer pets will be euthanized.

Thanks to All Who Help

They would like to thank all of those who have donated and volunteered their time – including people who spread the word about adoption and rescue. Together, they believe we can all make a difference in the lives of surrendered and abandoned pets. They’d like to share this quote by Jim Willis: “I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter…the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. “God,” I said, “this is terrible! Why don’t you do something?” God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. “I have done something,” He replied. “I created You.” ~Jim Willis

This shelter didn’t have a proper license until August 2015, and their nonprofit status was revoked in 2012. A quick Google search shows that they used to breed Australian Sheps. Possibly the worst rescue to spotlight.
