Today’s PetMeds Spotlight is on things to take with you when taking your dog to the beach. Many people are planning summer outings to the beach, outdoor fests, or anywhere there might be a body of water. If you are like me, you are going to take your dog with you.
With this type of great fun, comes great responsibility. Here is a checklist of items when taking a dog to the beach along for other summer-time activities:
A bowl for water. If you are going to a saltwater beach, have fresh water readily available; otherwise your dog might drink the salt water. Salt water dehydrates immediately, and can cause a costly trip to the emergency vet.
A light colored or florescent floating toy. There is nothing greater than seeing your best friend swim out through the waves to get a toy, but sometimes they can lose track and the toy should be easily retrievable.
A gentle shampoo and towel. After a day at the beach, like you, your pet needs to be rinsed off so their skin doesn’t dry up. A moisturizing shampoo, or an oatmeal and aloe vera shampoo, will bring them back and ready for the couch to sleep off the day in no-time.
